Food Taste – Mouth or Nose ?
Materials Required
- Different flavored jams or jellies
- An assistant
- A blindfold
Procedure
Blindfold your assistant and ask him to pinch his nose tight.
Then feed him with one flavor of jam and ask him to identify the
flavor. Repeat with all flavors and see if he can identify the flavor.
Result
Your assistant will not be able to identify the flavor if he had
shut his nose real tight.
Inference:
You should have noticed that you were not able to identify flavors
when you were affected with cold and clogged nose. The sense of
smell or the odor receptors in your nose identifies flavors. Your
tongue or taste buds helps 10 – 20 percent in identifying
flavors
.
